Use this practical checklist to organise information before speaking with a truck finance professional. Tick off what you have, then ask the eventual provider which items apply to your situation.

For owner-operators, transport businesses and fleet operators considering a truck, prime mover, rigid truck, tipper, trailer or combination.
Business identification
Have basic details ready so the professional can understand who is applying.
- Legal business name and trading name
- ABN and ACN, if applicable
- Business structure (sole trader, partnership, company or trust)
- Business and director/owner contact details
- Date trading commenced and relevant transport licences or registrations
Truck and purchase details
The asset and transaction details help a provider assess what may be relevant.
- Make, model, year, configuration and kilometres
- VIN/chassis number, registration and GVM/GCM or payload details where relevant
- New or used status, condition and available inspection information
- Purchase price, deposit or trade-in details and proposed settlement date
- Dealer, manufacturer or private vendor name and contact details
- Written quote, tax invoice, contract of sale or sales order if available
Business financial information
Providers may request financial information to assess serviceability and risk.
- Recent business and personal tax returns where requested
- Profit and loss statement and balance sheet for relevant periods
- Business bank statements or accountant-prepared financials where requested
- Current accounts receivable, accounts payable and cash-flow context
- Freight contracts, work orders or forward bookings where relevant
- A short explanation of seasonal income, expansion plans or unusual transactions
Existing obligations and security
- Details of existing truck, equipment, property or business finance
- Current repayment amounts, payout figures or lease schedules where relevant
- Existing security interests or encumbrances connected with the asset
- Any proposed guarantor or security information requested by the provider
Identity and final checks
Only provide sensitive documents through the secure method the eventual provider specifies.
- Current photo identification for applicants, directors or guarantors if requested
- Proof of residential address or business address if requested
- Insurance or delivery information requested before settlement
- A secure folder with clear, current copies and consistent file names
